Shifen Train Station
The Shifen Train Station is the largest stop on the Pingsi Railway and the place where trains are temporarily housed for switching. This train system has continuously operated since the Japanese Colonial Period, and train derivers exchanged passes here.
Shihfen Old Street
Shihfen Old Street is the filming place of the famous Hou Siao-Sian movie. Shih-Fen Old Street does not attract tourists by its authentic traditional architectures like other popular old streets, it’s the only old street which has trains pass though everyday. You can see a train slowly passing through while you are eating noodle on the street. The street is right next to the track but there are no fences in between, it’s the ultimate street to approach railways and trains.
Jingan Suspension Bridge
Jingan Suspension Bridge is 128 meters long; it’s the longest bridge in the town of Pingsi. Shihfen Mining Company built Jingan Suspension Bridge in 1974; it was used for coal transporting purpose. Since 1962 the mine closed down, Jianan Suspension Bridge has still been using by local residences for communicating purposes. Jingan Suspension Bridge had two major refurbishments in 1993 and 1998. It has been a popular place for visitors, just by standing on the bridge; you can clearly see the Ping-Shi Old Street and Jilong River.
Shifen Waterfall
Shifen Waterfall is located at the source of the Jilung River, in the town of Pingshi. The power of the rushing water has modified layers of rock formations in the area, creating beautiful scenery and several clusters of waterfalls. Special tunnels and bridges have been built to make this scenic area easily accessible to all visitors. Shifen Waterfall is the greatest screen curtain style waterfall in Taiwan. It looks like a blanket of white silk stain sliding down into a great wide deep pond. The pond is named Rainbow Pond because the waterfall reflects sunlight and creates plenty of tiny rainbows against the blue sky.
Wufen Mountain
Wufen Mountain, located at the boundary between Pingsi Township, Rueifang Township, and Keelung’s Nuannuan District, is 757 meters high, making it the second highest peak in Pingsi Township. The trail is 3.2 kilometers long and takes about 2 hours, passing by beautiful natural scenery along the way. The terminus of the trail is the Central Weather Bureau’s Wufen Mountain Weather Radar Station, where there are views of Rueifang Township and Keelung Port. When the weather is clear, even Taipei 101 can be seen. At night, it is a good spot for astronomical observation.
Glasses Holes Waterfall
Yen Jing Dong Waterfall (Glasses Holes Waterfall) Yen Jing Dong Waterfall plays an important in Ping-Shi Waterfalls. It is located at the upper part of Ji-Long River, from the bridge of Ping-Shi line, you can overlook the waterfall and identify the shape of glasses, that’s the origin of the name. Yen Jing Dong Waterfall is 6 meters high and 6 meters wide and categorized as an erosion waterfall.
