The train is about to pass through the part of Shifen Historical Old Street that doesn't have a fence. That's where you can see the colorful poster of “Grandma's Sky Lanterns”. This grandma is the same as any other villagers, she was born into a poor family with a lot of children, therefore, she was fostered when she was 6. She had to live through a life whereby she had to accept all the unpleasant things that happened to her, so she developed a strong, unyielding personality. She was married at 18. With a pair of scissors and a sewing machine, she handled all the hair-cuts and clothing for the whole family. On top of looking after the elderly and children, in order to further support the family, she grew vegetables, bred pigs and did casual works at the mines. She would not let go of any opportunity to make money. So, bit by bit the hearts of the family members grew strongly together. Although poor in material terms, but full in spirit terms. Grandpa loved education whereby he chose to cling on to the job even at the last second of his life. The achievements and the greetings by his students ware astonishing. Grandma's two capable hands never stopped, it went from growing vegetables to now making the sky lanterns.  Her grand-daughter who she used to take care of is now studying overseas. The Sky Lantern Festival in Northern Taiwan and Fireworks Festival in Southern Taiwan draw many visitors. The overseas granddaughter sent back a large hand-painted poster and through the introduction of the Taiwanese Tourism directed by the Hou Xiaoxien made “Grandma's Sky Lanterns” a must visit spot by the overseas tourists. Grandma went through Japanese education, so she could proudly and fluently tell in Japanese the stories behind the sky lanterns to the Japanese tourists. When sky lanterns raised gradually taking along all the wishes and blessing, it is not only touching, but it also gave a lot of people hope!
