Meiyun Fabric Workshop was known as the Old Hongchang Fabric Shop which was established on Pingxi Street during the heydays of coal mining. However, with the decline of the coal mines, the population to gradually migrate out of Pingxi. To revitalize the towns; new marketing gimmicks of the Sky Lantern Festival in Northern Taiwan and Fireworks Festival in Southern Taiwan was introduced. Therefore, the Pingxi Sky Lantern gave this town a new energy and created a new look for Pinghxi.
Nowadays, other than the educational coal mine tour, B & B, tourism, humanities and arts, etc., have stationed here. This diversification gives this ordinary old town full of new life.
